Patrick Henry (May 29, 1736 – June 6, 1799)[2] served as the first post-colonial Governor of Virginia from 1776 to 1779. He is known for his "Give me Liberty, or give me death" speech in 1775 during the American Revolutionary War in St. John's Church. He was also a fiery speaker who evoked great emotion from listeners, and also inspired Thomas Jefferson.[source?]
