Piposh evolved into a franchise, with a television series and a comic book.
The series continued to have a dedicated fandom (possibly primarily in Israel). Games in the series have been reviewed negatively for their poor visual style and gameplay, however some critics have seen Piposh as a source of Israeli pride and a key milestone in the advancement of the Israeli video game industry in the 21st century.
A reboot game simply titled "Piposh" was released in April 2021.
Plot and gameplay
The series' protagonist Piposh is intended to be an embodiment of the arrogant Israeli, with a worldview that "the whole world is an idiot – and that talk can not be done quietly, only with shouting."[1]
The story follows the adventures of the title-protagonist, flawed actor and "morbidly tactless guy in his attempts to reach Hollywood and make it big."[2] In the first game, he boards the wrong boat and gets into several high-jinks, including being caught up in a murder. He can judge the other characters, break into their rooms, and accuse them of murder.[3] In Piposh 2, he finds himself trapped on an island populated by dwarves, who help him assemble an airplane-like device to escape.[4] Halom SheHitgashem is focused on eight strange acquaintances who are invited to the castle of a goofy man.[5] Piposh 3D revolves around a political revolution in which an entire country decides to become vegetarian, replacing meat with tofu.[6]
