R262 (New York City Subway car)

The R262 is a planned subway car model that will enter service on the New York City Subway between 2026 and 2030. It is intended to replace all remaining R62A and R62 cars.

The new fleet will likely operate on several lines:

The 1 train may use R142 or R142A cars.
The 3 train could operate with R142, R142A, or R188 cars.
The 6 train is expected to run with R188 cars.
The 5 train may also receive R262 cars once delivered.

The R262 is expected to feature open gangway designs similar to the R211A cars currently in production.^[1]
