Room

A living room

A room (or chamber) is a space inside a structure or building. Usually, a room is separated from other rooms and from the outside by walls. Doors provide access.

A room may have a specified purpose, defined by its use. Examples of such rooms are the bedroom, the kitchen, and the bathroom.

History

People have been using rooms for a long time. The Minoans may have been the first to use rooms in 2200 BC, but they might be older than that. Many rooms were unique and could be put into different categories. They had bedrooms, kitchens, and closets, much like the houses of today. Sometimes rooms were built on top of other rooms, with stairs connecting the levels. Bathrooms also existed, and they had baths, toilets, and plumbing.[1]

Ancient Rome had very complex buildings with many rooms. The Anasazi people also had complex rooms, which are probably the oldest in North America, and the Mayans were making them a few hundred years AD. Around the early Han Dynasty in China, buildings with lots of purposes, like religious and social, started to be made. These buildings could have several levels.
