Russell M. Nelson
Russell Marion Nelson (September 9, 1924 – September 27, 2025) was the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 2018 until his death in 2025. He was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the LDS Church. He is also a known cardiothoracic surgeon.[1] He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In January 2018, he became the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the death of Thomas S. Monson.
At the time of his death, he was the oldest living apostle in the Church.[2] In July 3, 2015, following the death of President Boyd K. Packer, Nelson became President of the Quorum. Nelson turned 100 on September 9, 2024.[3]
Death
Nelson died on September 27, 2025, at his home in Salt Lake City at the age of 101.[4]
