Story
In this episode, Homer takes a fatherhood quiz and realizes that he knows nothing about Bart. He tries to be a better father and learns that Bart is entering in a "Soap Box Derby." Homer and Bart make a racer together, however it is not very good, and Bart decides to drive Martin's much nicer racer instead. Homer is at first sad, but decides that he must be a good father and support Bart.
Saturdays Of Thunder Media
Executive producer Sam Simon found a real fatherhood test that served as the inspiration for the episode's subplot.
This image depicts a race similar to the ones featured in the episode, which was praised for its sports theme. Some critics, however, thought the Soap Box Derby plotline had limited modern day appeal because few practice the sport any more.
