Scripture means writing in Latin. The word is mostly used to refer to the Bible or books that are considered sacred to a certain religion, like the Bible, Qur'an or Vedas.

The Rigveda (Vedic chant) manuscript in Devanagari, a scripture of Hinduism, dated 1500–1000 BCE. It is the oldest religious text in any Indo-European language.
