The SIddiquis (kaeaboArabic: صديقيcode: ar is deprecated ) are a religious group who claim to descended from of Abu Bakr Siddiq.^[1]^[2]

Etymology

The title Siddiqui (Arabic: صديقيcode: ar is deprecated ) is an attributive form of the Arabic word Siddiq (Arabic: صديقcode: ar is deprecated ).^[3]^[4] The name Siddiq means 'the truthful'.^[4] It was given to Abu Bakr by Muhammad^saw.

History

According to a study, the Siddiquis are descended from a Kayastha record-keeper caste who Islamized at some point.^[1]
