Siirt
Siirt is a city in southeastern Turkey. The city is in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. In 2013, 147,323 people lived there.

There were, at that time, still areas with cobbled stones in the streets, fine for photography but hell for wheeled vehicles. They are now generally asphalted.

There was a time - mainly in the 19th or early 20th century - when any self-respecting town would build a tower with a clock. Nowadays they are monuments of a time when having a time-piece was only for the well-off.

In 2010 I visited the town for the third time, and obviously lots of new buildings were being built, old regions were disappearing. Still there was a well-sized area with old shops and an ancient atmosphere, this is one of some pictures taken there.

Not many buildings will have the distinction of being restored in 1129; this Great Mosque has. Its founding date is unknown. Selcuk Sultan Mugizuddin Mahmut seems to have ordered the restoration. Its minber was sold in 1933 to the Ethnography Museum in Ankara.
