Sokratis Malamas

Sokratis Malamas (Greek: Σωκράτης Μάλαμας) (born September 29, 1957) is a Greek singer and songwriter.[1]

Biography

Sokratis Malamas, born on September 29, 1957, in Sykia, Greece, moved to Germany with his family for a few years before settling in Thessaloniki. There, he learned bouzouki songs from his father. At thirteen, he got his first guitar and practiced for school presentations. Later, at seventeen, he studied guitar at the Macedonian Conservatory. He returned to Germany, then moved back to Greece for studies at the National Conservatory in Athens, taught by Vangelis Assimakopoulos and Notis Mavroudis. He started his professional career at 23 as a guitar teacher and singer in public venues before joining Nikos Papazoglou's orchestra.

He played music in public places, trying to showcase his songs. It wasn't until Nikos Papazoglou brought him into the studio for his first album, 'Aspromavres Istories,' in 1989. Sokratis Malamas wrote songs for theater and performed at the odeon. His direction in his works became more recognized and loved by his audience.

He collaborated with renowned musicians like Manolis Rasoulis, composers such as Nikos Xydakis, and singers like Melina Kana and Thanasis Papakonstantinou. He worked with various lyricists and musicians, including Giannis Tsatsopoulos, Giorgos Athanassopoulos, Alkis Alkaiou, Fotini Lambridis, Thodoros Gonis, Michalis Gkanas, and Odysseas Ioannou. Additionally, he contributed to projects by Dionyssis Tsaknis, Maria Thoidou, B.D. Foxmoor, Sadahzinia (of Active Member), Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Michalis Siganidis, Takis Vouis, Maria Papanikolaou, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Haris Alexiou, and more

Malamas also wrote songs and featured them in movies including To Kynigi To Lagou (Το Κυνήγι του Λαγού) [1] and explained a song called To Chrono na Lavoso (Το χρόνο να λαβώσω) in a short-length film Ypsoma 33 (Ύψωμα 33) [2], [3]
