Source text
A source text[1][2] is a piece of work (usually writing, sometimes speech) where information or ideas come from. In translation, a source text is the original text that is to be translated into another language.
In the study of history, people talk about primary (firsthand), secondary (secondhand) and tertiary (thirdhand) sources.
