T. Velmurugan

Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) is a regional political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, founded in 2012 by T. Velmurugan. The party focuses on issues related to Tamil identity, social justice, and regional development.

History

Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi was founded in January 2012 by T. Velmurugan following his expulsion from the Pattali Makkal Katchi. The party was formally launched in Chennai during the Pongal festival.[1][2]

The party was established with the objective of promoting the rights, identity, and livelihood of Tamil people.[3]

Since its formation, the party has participated in electoral politics in Tamil Nadu and has been involved in alliances with other political parties.

In the run-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the party exited the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance citing disagreements over seat-sharing arrangements.[4][5][6]

The party has also been involved in political discourse and public issues in Tamil Nadu, including responding to controversies and engaging with the state government.[7][8]
