Dialect or Different Languages???

Shouldn't Sardinian and Sicilian be classified as dialects? I find the current version of the article very misleading.Noelle 19:55, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Confusing comment

Under "People and Culture" the article says: "After the United States and many other countries in the world, Italy has the largest illegal immigrant problem in the world." This is confusing. If it is after the United States and many other countries, then the problem is not the largest in the world. The statistics should be verified and this statement should be cleaned up.

• Regions: What is the meaning of the asterisk (*)? - Can we get a map comparable to the one at France#Divisions; look at en:Italy#Administradive divisions to see what I mean.
• Politics: Can you give us anything that we don't already have in the overview box? - Extend, perhaps mention political parties, how the different people are elected, for how long they serve, what parties have influenced Italy a lot..
• People and culture: Immigrant problem: Mention that the tiny, now barren islets of Lampedusa / Linosa is the root of this problem? - It's only 115 km from the African mainland.
• Italy was the birthplace of Universities; the first ones were Salerno (1055, medicine), and Bologna (1088, canonical law); Renaissance started in Tuscany...
• Religion: are there any important minorities, mention Vatican City, how big is the influence of religion on everyday life...

I have reviewed the history section and agree with the continued placement of the {{complex}} tag for the following reason;

• The following words need linking or explaining; territory, states, domination, declared, Catholic, reunited, participated, surrendered, Fascism, dictator, ally, movement (as in political movement), invaders, and dynasty.

Additionally in the politics section, "left-wing", "right-wing" and "coalition" need defining and "Lira" needs linking. Hope this helps! Good luck! fr33kman ^talk 13:46, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I forgot to mention also that per en:WP:LEAD the lead section should have a summary of all important points in all other sections. In general nothing important found in the rest of the article should be a surprise if one has read the lead. As such, the lead needs expanding. I know that often we don't do this here, but with an article that has a good enough length to it, as this one does, I feel it's better to have a good lead. • We have one statement that is unreferenced in the lead section - please fix it.
• What do the asterisks (*) in the list of regions mean? Either they are removed completely or a legend is included to prevent confusion. I believe this has been brought up before.
• Is population density allowed to be "n/a"?

• The website mentioned under "Other websites" is for advertisment, imo.
• The article is tagged with needs proving.
• Reference 2 is a blog, forum or what ever. This isn't a reliable source.
• The "Transportation" section has only one sentence, what clearly is too less.
• The list in the Regions-section should be in two columns.
• Why have some of the regions an asterisks ^* ?
• Other cities in Italy are Milan, Turin, Florence, Naples, and Venice. - Why are these cities mentioned and not others?
• Italy has two very small independent states, San Marino and the Vatican City. - Sounds like Italy is the owner of this states.
• The population of Italy is a little over 58 million. - Related to which year? 1759 or 1929?
• The Pope, who was angry, said that he was a prisoner to keep Catholic people from being active in politics. - needs a ref. Prbably he was happy?
• Dates in the history section should be unlinked.
