Tarawih (تراويح) also spelled Taraweeh, are Sunnah prayers (optional but recommended) which Muslims read at night in the month of Ramadan.[1] The details of how the Tarawih are to be said is different between the different branches of Islam.[2] Tarawih prayers are made up of a number of prayer phrases and actions, rakahs.[1] Hanafis and Shafi'i say there are 20 rakahs,[3] some Hanabalis say it is only eight,[4] while others say 20. Malikis say there are 36, and the Ahl al-Hadeeth say it is 8.
