Tarawih (تراويح) also spelled Taraweeh, are Sunnah prayers (optional but recommended) which Muslims read at night in the month of Ramadan.^[1] The details of how the Tarawih are to be said is different between the different branches of Islam.^[2] Tarawih prayers are made up of a number of prayer phrases and actions, rakahs.^[1] Hanafis and Shafi'i say there are 20 rakahs,^[3] some Hanabalis say it is only eight,^[4] while others say 20. Malikis say there are 36, and the Ahl al-Hadeeth say it is 8.
