Template:Cite NIE
article name needed (1905).
Purpose
This template enables the citation of articles from The New International Encyclopedia in the manner of {{cite encyclopaedia}}. It provides for links to the Wikisource project The New International Encyclopædia.
Usage
{{Cite NIE|put the name of the article here|year=year of publication}}
or with a specification of the optional title, display, author, noicon or vb parameters:
{{Cite NIE|put the name of the article here|display=displayed article name|year=year of publication|author=author name|long=x|noicon=x|vb=x}}
Other parameters available are page, pages, volume and url.
Examples
Simple
{{Cite NIE|Kapp, Friedrich|year=1905}}
displays as:
Kapp, Friedrich (1905).
With comment
{{Cite NIE|Kapp, Friedrich|year=1905}} A German-American historian and lawyer.
displays as:
Kapp, Friedrich (1905). A German-American historian and lawyer.
Using display
The mechanics of Wikisource will sometimes require that a link have disambiguation information which is not part of the original title. The display parameter allows this information to be hidden for the purpose of the citation. For example:
{{Cite NIE|Adams, William (clergyman)|year=1905|display=Adams, William. An American Presbyterian clergyman}}
displays as:
Adams, William. An American Presbyterian clergyman (1905).
Using title (no Wikisource link)
{{Cite NIE|title=Meyer, Henry Herman|year=1918}}
displays as:
Meyer, Henry Herman (1918).
When title is being used, url can be used to specify an external link. For example:
{{Cite NIE
|title=Taussig, Frank William
|year=1922
|url=http://books.google.com/books?id=e5XthY8IZ0gC&pg=PA14
}} At [[Google Books]].
displays as:
Taussig, Frank William (1922). At Google Books.
Using noicon
{{Cite NIE|Kapp, Friedrich|year=1905|noicon=x}}
displays as:
Kapp, Friedrich (1905).
Using vb
If text is incorporated verbatim into an article, the vb parameter can be used to tack on a notice appropriate to the policy in Wikipedia:Plagiarism.
{{Cite NIE|Schlatter, Francis|year=1905|vb=x}}
displays as:
This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain: Schlatter, Francis (1905).
No title or Wikisource link
This style is accommodated, but should be avoided if possible, since it can lead to a nebulous citation.
{{Cite NIE|volume=20|year=1916|page=684}}
displays as:
article name needed 20 (1916). p. 684.
A long citation
{{Cite NIE|title=Meyer, Henry Herman|year=1918|long=x}}
displays as:
Meyer, Henry Herman (1918). New York: Dodd, Mead and Company.
