< Template:CodeFedReg

Usage

This template cites the Code of Federal Regulations with automatic links. It wikilinks the title and/or part if it exists on Wikipedia, and makes an external link to the U.S. government's GPO Access site for the subpart and section.

This template links to external sites. External links should not normally be used in the body of an article; see Wikipedia:External links for discussion of acceptable and unacceptable uses. **Using spaces in the parameters (ie. title, part, section, etc) will break the external link generated by the template

Normal citations — 13 C.F.R. 136.130g
rendered as 13 C.F.R. 136.130

{{CodeFedReg |13|136|130|g}} or {{CodeFedReg |1=13|2=136|3=130|a=g}}

  • 1 = Title
  • 2 = Part
  • 3 = Section
  • a = Clause (optional)
Subpart citations — 24 C.F.R. 884C
rendered as 24 C.F.R. 884 Subpart C

{{CodeFedReg |24|884|subpart=C}} or {{CodeFedReg |1=24|2=884|subpart=C}}

  • 1 = Title
  • 2 = Part
  • subpart = Subpart
Strange prefixed/appendix section citations — 40 C.F.R. 58 App G
rendered as 40 C.F.R. 58 App G

{{CodeFedReg |40|58|prefix=App|G}} or {{CodeFedReg |1=40|2=58|prefix=App|3=G}}

  • 1 = Title
  • 2 = Part
  • prefix=Examp = Prefix abbreviation (as used on GPO Access citations; often prefix=App for Appendix)
  • 3 = Section (optional; sometimes a letter for some prefixes)
  • a = Clause (optional)
Optional combined subpart/section citations — 23 C.F.R. 710 Subpart D §403e
rendered as 23 C.F.R. 710 Subpart D §403

{{CodeFedReg |23|710|subpart=D|403|d}} or {{CodeFedReg |1=23|2=710|subpart=D|3=403|a=e}}

  • 1 = Title
  • 2 = Part
  • subpart = Subpart
  • 3 = Section (optional)
  • a = Clause (optional)

If both subpart and section are given, both are displayed, but the link is to the section, since it is more specific.

Optional parameters
  • year=2000 = year to use instead of current; GPO Access has copies of regulations several years back
  • accessdate=Template:Today (mdy) = adds "accessed on" language for citations

prefix, subpart, year, and accessdate are new as of October 22, 2010.

For more examples and results, see Template:CodeFedReg/testcases.
