Template:Respelled/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Respelled. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template can be used to show how to pronounce (say) certain words in the name of the article using a simple respelling method at "Help:Pronunciation respelling key". The template provides a link to that article so that readers can easily look up how to pronounce the word.
The template has a parameter called "p" (which stands for "pronounced") that is optional – you can choose if you want to use it or not. If "p=on", the word "pronounced" is displayed. If "p=off" or you leave out the parameter, the template does not display the word "pronounced".
Examples
Here are examples of how to use the template:
What you type | What you will see |
---|---|
{{respelled|p=on|<small>STRAZ</small>-bur}} | pronounced STRAZ-bur |
{{respelled|p=off|<small>STRAZ</small>-bur}} or
{{respelled|<small>STRAZ</small>-bur}} |
STRAZ-bur |
This example shows only the respelled pronunciation of the word "Strasbourg":
This example shows how the word should be pronounced with both the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) (using the {{Pronounced}} template) and respelled pronunciation:
- Strasbourg (pronounced [ˈstʀazbuʀ], STRAZ-bur), is a city in the east of France.
