History

The Isonokami Shrine is in Tenri. A town grew up around the shrine.[2]

According to tradition, Tenri was the site of the Hirotaka Palace (Hirotak no miya) when Emperor Ninken lived there.[3]

Tenri is the center of the Tenrikyo religion.[1]
