Torrey Smith

James Torrey Smith (born January 26, 1989) is an American former professional football wide receiver. He played 8 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Carolina Panthers. He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2011 NFL Draft. Smith attended Stafford Senior High School in Stafford, Virginia, where he played basketball and football. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Maryland. He won two Super Bowls; XLVII with Ravens in 2013 and LII with the Eagles in 2018.

College career

Smith played college football for the Maryland Terrapins from 2007 through 2010. Smith redshirted as a freshman in 2007, but had gained a larger role by his sophomore year.

Professional career

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens selected Smith in the 2nd Round (58th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. Smith started out slow in the preseason and struggled with drops. However, in Week 3 against the St. Louis Rams, Smith had five catches for 152 yards and three touchdowns. His first catch in the NFL was a 74-yard score from quarterback Joe Flacco. Smith continued his good play, even catching a game-winning touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field on November 6, 2011. Smith finished his first season with 50 catches for 841 yards and seven touchdowns.

On September 3, 2019, Smith announced that he was retiring from playing professional football.[1]
