The University of Paris (French: [Université de Paris] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help)) was a university in Paris, France. It was one of the first universities to be established in Europe. It was founded in the middle of the 12th century.[1] The university is often referred to as the Sorbonne or la Sorbonne, after the creation of the college (Collège de Sorbonne) founded around 1257 by Robert de Sorbon.
In 1971, the university was split into thirteen independent universities.
