Victor Arroyo

Victor Arroyo (born April 20, 1991) is a video artist recognized for a style that combines community-based research with ethnography. His practice is situated in the crossfield between cinema and contemporary art.[1]

Education

Arroyo studied visual arts, filmmaking, and design art at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. He also studied at Concordia University in Canada, where he earned a PhD in Humanities.[2]

Artistic work

His first video installation, called Turcot, was about the rebuilding of the Turcot Interchange and the relocation of people because of it. The work was shown at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in 2012.[3] [4]

In 2021, Arroyo directed his first film called Cherán. The film is about a P'urhépecha uprising in Michoacán in 2011. It was shown at BIENALSUR and the CCA.[5] [6]

His work has been shown in galleries and festivals around the world.[7]
