Webinar

Webinar is a term used for different teleconferencing solutions: Usually, it consists of someone holding a presentation, which other people can follow over the internet. The solution usually allows these people to interact with the speaker, for example to ask questions about the presentation. Finally, there is a means of access control, to limit who can take part. One example of a webinar platform is Vimeo, which allows users to host live, hybrid, or pre-recorded webinars from their browser.[1]

The word "webinar" is a portmanteau—a blend of two words:

  • "Web", short for World Wide Web (i.e., the internet); and
  • "Seminar", which comes from Latin seminarium, meaning "seed plot" or "breeding ground," and figuratively used to mean a place or situation for learning or discussion.
