Onomatopoeia
An onomatopoeia is a word that sounds like the sound it means: words that imitate particular sounds.
Examples:
- buzz -- the sound bees make
- arf, woof, bark -- sounds that dogs make
- cuckoo -- the bird's name is its call
- zip, zipper -- the sound it makes
- meow -- the sound that cats makes
- tick tick -- the sound that a clock makes
- boom--the sound that a bomb makes
- crash--the sound that breaking glass makes
- moo--the sound a cow makes
