2018 Malaysian general election
The 2018 Malaysian general election (formally the 14th Malaysian general election) was held on 9 May 2018 to elect members to the Dewan Rakyat of the 14th Parliament of Malaysia and therefore a new Prime Minister of Malaysia.[1] All 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat and 505 seats in 12 out of the 13 State Legislative Assemblies of Malaysia were up for election.[2]

Parliament results
Malaysia's main opposition, Pakatan Harapan, led by Mahathir Mohamad, along with the Sabah Heritage Party, won 121 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, allowing them to form a majority government. Mahathir became the next Prime Minister.[3] Mahathir was sworn in on May 10, a day after the election.[4] Barisan Nasional, led by former Prime Minister Najib Razak, won 79 seats, becoming the Opposition after 61 years of holding the majority.
