2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference
The 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP16) [was] a conference in 2024.[1] COP means conference of the parties; Earlier there was a COP15; It was the 15th conference of its kind.

Background: There was an earlier conference where a monitoring framework was agreed upon. That framework should allow the progress of the countries towards national goals and targets under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to be evaluated.[2]
History
On 11 December 2023, Colombia, through its Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Susana Muhamad, officially offered to host the event from 21 October to 1 November 2024.[3]
In February 2024, Cali said it will hold the biodiversity conference.[4][5]
The UNCBD notified Parties on 31 July 2023 Turkeys’ decision to withdraw from hosting and presiding over the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity because of the three destructive earthquakes that occurred in February 2023.[6]

Colombia's Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad, served as the President of the COP16 throughout the entirety of its negotiations.
