In biology, the action potential is an electrical impulse that is formed in the body of a neuron and moves down the axon to the synapse.[1] The action potential is the result of the cell moving ions in and out of the cell.[2] Specifically, it involves Potassium (K+) and Sodium (Na+). The ions are moved in and out of the cell by potassium channels, sodium channels and the sodium-potassium pump.
