Adagio Hammerklavier

Adagio Hammerklavier is a ballet made by Hans van Manen to the Adagio from Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 29, Hammerklavier. The ballet has no plot and is danced by three groups of two people. Van Manen made Adagio Hammerklavier for the Dutch National Ballet, and it was first shown on 4 October 1973, at the Stadsschouwburg, Amsterdam.[1][2]

The ballet has been done by other groups, including the Royal Ballet in London, Houston Ballet, Berlin Opera Ballet,[2] Mariinsky Ballet,[3] English National Ballet,[4] Stuttgart Ballet,[5] La Scala Theatre Ballet,[6] Pennsylvania Ballet and Northern Ballet.[7][8]
