Cowlings is most known for his role in helping his close friend O. J. Simpson run away from the police on June 17, 1994, after Simpson was accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. After leading police on a low-speed chase in his now famous white Ford Bronco, Cowlings drove Simpson back to his home where both were arrested. Cowlings was arrested for helping a fugitive, although the charges against Cowlings would later be dropped.[4][5]
