André Fernandes

André Fernandes (c. 1578 – 1648) was a bandeirante [en] from São Paulo, born in the interior of the Captaincy of São Vicente (present-day São Paulo state), and considered one of the founders of Santana de Parnaíba. The son of Manuel Fernandes Ramos (known as Mourão) and Susana Dias, he was born around 1578. He was the brother of the bandeirantes Domingos Fernandes [en], founder of the city of Itu, and Baltasar Fernandes [en], founder of the city of Sorocaba. Silva Leme, who calls him "paulista" and one of the greatest backwoodsmen, describes his family in the book Genealogia Paulistana [en].[1]
