Anointing of the Sick (Extreme Unction) is a sacrament or sacred action in Roman Catholicism and other Christian denominations. Blessed oil or chrism is placed on a sick person by a priest. It is similar to the laying on of hands done by many healers.

Jesus is described as healing many people in all four Gospels, and this is continued by the Apostles in the Book of Acts. In the Epistle of James 5:14 it states: "Is there anyone who is ill? He should send for the church elders who will pray for him and rub olive oil on him in the name of the Lord"'
