The Hashemite Arab Federation was a short-lived country that was created in 1958 from the union between the Hashemite Kingdoms of Iraq and Jordan. Although the name implies a federal structure, it was de facto a confederation.
The federation was created on 14 February 1958 when King Faisal II and King Hussein of Jordan wanted to unite their two kingdoms because of the creation of the United Arab Republic. The federation lasted six months. Faisal was overthrown by a coup in July 14. The Federation was destroyed on 2 August 1958
