Area code 517 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan. It covers south-central Michigan, including cities like its capital city, Lansing, Jackson, and Adrian. Area code 517 was established in 1947 as one of the original area codes and initially served the entire southern half of Michigan. It was split by 989 in 2001.
