Arrondissement of Cognac

The arrondissement of Cognac is an arrondissement of France, in the Charente department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its capital is the city of Cognac.

History

When the Charente department was created on 1800, the arrondissement of Cognac was part of that original department.[1]

Geography

The arrondissement of Cognac is the smallest arrondissement of the department with an area of 1,471.2 km2 (568.0 sq mi).[2] It has 92,224 inhabitants and a density of 62.7 inhabitants/km².[3]

The arrondissement of Cognac is in western Charente and is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Confolens, to the east by the arrondissement of Angoulême and to the south and west by the Charente-Maritime department.

Cantons
