Arrondissements of the Loir-et-Cher department
There are 3 arrondissements in the Loir-et-Cher department. The French departments, and in other countries, are divided into arrondissements, which may be translated into English as districts (in some cases, as boroughs). The capital of an arrondissement is called a subprefecture.
If the prefecture (capital) of the department is in an arrondissement, that prefecture is the capital of the arrondissement, acting both as a prefecture and as a subprefecture.
Arrondissements are further divided into communes.

History
Since its creation, the Loir-et-Cher department has had few changes:[4]
- 1790 : creation of the department with six districts: Blois, Vendôme, Romorantin, Mondoubleau, Mer and Saint-Aignan; the capital was Blois.
- 1800 : creation of three arrondissements: Blois, Romorantin and Vendôme.
- 1926 : the arrondissement of Romorantin was eliminated.
- 1943 : Romorantin was made again an arrondissement.
- 1961 : Romorantin was merged with Lanthenay and the name, of the commune and of the arrondissement, was changed to Romorantin-Lanthenay.
