Battle of Batapur
The Battle of Batapur (or Batapore) was fought in between Pakistan and India on 6 September 1965. 15 Infantry Division under World War II veteran Major General Nirinjan Parsad crossed the international border and started advancing towards Lahore. 15 Division was supported by 14 Scinde Horse, the tank regiment equipped with Sherman tanks. On the Pakistan side it was 3 Baloch Regiment under command of Lieutenant Colonel Tajammal Hussain Malik which started for BRBL canal. The battle ended in Pakistani victory.[1] The battle forced Nirinjan Parsad to retreat leaving behind his jeep and personal papers and dairy, which were captured by Pakistan army. Pakistan radio broadcast excerpt from the paper which caused great deal of embarrassment of India.[2]
