Background

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Soran Emirate under Muhammad Pasha of Rawanduz emerged as a powerful Kurdish principality in the region. Seeking to expand his influence over neighboring Kurdish emirates, Muhammad Pasha of Rawanduz began a series of military campaigns against rival territories.[1][2][3][4]

The Bohtan Emirate, centered in Jazira (modern-day Cizre), was among the targets of this expansionist policy. The Bohtani emirate, although influential, was weakened by internal instability and rivalries.[1][2][3][4]

In 1833, Muhammad Pasha of Rawanduz launched a direct attack on Bohtan, aiming to seize its strategic capital. His forces encountered little resistance, allowing him to capture the city with relative ease. This marked a significant moment in inter Kurdish power struggles during a period of declining Ottoman control in the frontier regions.[1][2][3][4]
