Bromide
Bromide is the reduced form of the chemical element bromine. It is a bromine atom with one extra electron, making an anion. The bromide anion is written with the chemical formula Br−
. Salts of the bromide ion and covalent compounds between bromine and most other elements are also called bromides. Bromide is not toxic in small amounts, but consuming too much can cause a disease called bromism.[1]
Preparation
Bromide salts are normally made by reaction of hydrobromic acid, but can also be made by reduction of elemental bromine.
