CBS Evening News
The CBS Evening News is a daily evening newscast on CBS. It is the "flagship" program of the CBS News division.[1] The program began in 1948 as "Douglas Edwards with the News."[2] They were sponsored by General Motors. In 1963 the name was changed to the "CBS Evening News".[3] Walter Cronkite anchored the news from 1962 to 1981. Then Dan Rather succeeded Cronkite, lasting from 1981 to 2005. From 1993 to 1995, Connie Chung co-anchored with Rather. In 2005, Bob Schieffer was an interim anchor after Rather departed. Then from 2006 to 2011, Katie Couric was the anchor. Then, Scott Pelley was the anchor and managing editor from 2011 to 2016. [4] Pelley was succeeded by Jeff Glor in 2017. Currently, the CBS Evening News is anchored by Norah O'Donnell. Her debut was in July 2019.
