Cane Corso

The Cane Corso is an ancient mastiff breed from Italy. It is a large, very muscular dog. It is an excellent watchdog, and it has been used to hunt animals like wild boar.[1] The Cane Corso is well-known, and although not widely as popular as the Mastiff, the Cane Corso is known for its loyalty to its owners.

Characteristics

Cane Corsos are known for their loyalty to their owners. They are one of the best guarding breeds. The Cane Corso is highly intelligent and very trainable, with a stable temperament. It has excellent hearing.

It has tough skin and is highly tolerant of pain. A Cane Corso might even ignore the shock of an electric fence.

The dog also loves to run and needs daily exercise.[3]

Training

The Cane Corso needs early training. Its owner must introduce the dog to his environment. This includes family, friends, nearby cats and dogs. This is because the Cane Corso breed is first and foremost highly protective of its owner.[4]

It is important that this dog be socialized early. If carefully trained as a pup, it is very good with other people while always being highly protective of its owner.
