Chedwyn Michael "Ched" Evans (born 28 December 1988) is a Welsh footballer. He was born in St Asaph, Denbighshire. Evans was signed by Manchester City from Chester City's youth set up in 2002. In 2009 he was sold to Sheffield United for £3,000,000. Evans was sent to HM Prison Wymott from 2012 to 2014 for raping a woman. Evans has not played professional football since he was released.

Personal life

Evans met his girlfriend while he was with Manchester City. She has said that she planned on getting engaged to Evans now he is released from prison.[1]

Rape conviction

Evans was tried at the Crown Court at Caernarfon with another footballer called Clayton McDonald on a charge of rape. On 20 April 2012 Evans was convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman. After the conviction, Evans was released by United at the end of the season.[2] Evans was given a prison sentence of 5 years. In October 2014 Evans was released from prison after serving half his sentence.[1]
