Child safety seat

A child safety seat.

A child safety seat, sometimes called an infant seat, child seat, car seat, or baby seat, is a seat designed to protect children from injury caused by a crash while riding in a vehicle.

Usually, vehicle owners buy car seats for their children, but sometimes vehicle manufacturers include them as part of the vehicle's design.[1]

Many governments require that children be seated in a child safety seat while riding in a vehicle, based on factors which usually include age, height, or weight.[2] In many countries, vehicle manufacturers are required to make their vehicles compatible with child safety seats.
