Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam, BWV 7
Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam (Christ our Lord came to the Jordan),[1] BWV 7 is a cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. It was written for the Feast of St. John the Baptist. It was first performed on 24 June 1724. It is based on the hymn Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam.[2]
Structure
The cantata is written for SATB choir, alto, tenor, and bass soloists, two oboes d'amore, two solo violins, two violins, a viola, and basso continuo. It has seven movements.[2]
- Chorale: Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam
- Aria: Merkt und hört, ihr Menschenkinder
- Recitative: Dies hat Gott klar
- Aria: Des Vaters Stimme ließ sich hören
- Recitative: Als Jesus dort nach seinen Leiden
- Aria: Menschen, glaubt doch dieser Gnade
- Choral: Das Aug allein das Wasser sieht
