Ethel Lang

Ethel Lang (née Lancaster;[1] 27 May 1900[2] – 15 January 2015)[3] was a British supercentenarian and, at the time of her death, the oldest living person in the United Kingdom (after the death of Grace Jones on 14 November 2013),[4] the ninth oldest living person in the world and the second-oldest living person in Europe after Emma Morano.

Lang was born in Worsbrough, near Barnsley, to Charles and Sarah Lancaster. She left school at the age of 13 to work in a shirt factory. She married William Lang in 1922 and their daughter Margaret was born in 1923. Lang's mother lived to the age of 91, and her great-grandmother to the age of 92.[5][6]

Lang was the last living British person to have been born during the reign of Queen Victoria.[7]
