English: This video was recorded by Archyn Termishev in the Altai Republic, Russia. Altai is a Turkic language spoken in the Altai Republic, where it holds official status. There are 57,000 speakers of Altai, including both the Southern and Northern varieties. Due to its isolated position in the mountainous environment of the republic, along with its proximity to the Shor and Khakas languages, there has been dispute as to how to classify the language. Recently, a proposal was made to place Southern Altai as its own subgroup within the Turkic languages.
