Girl Meets World was an American coming of age sitcom. The show first aired on June 27, 2014 on Disney Channel. It followed the premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie, Zapped. Girl Meets World is a sequel to the sitcom Boy Meets World. The original show aired on ABC in its TGIF block from 1993 to 2000. On August 6, 2014, Girl Meets World was renewed for a second season by Disney Channel.[1][2] “Girl Meets World” was nominated for two Creative Arts Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Children’s Program.”

On January 4, 2017 the Disney Channel decided to not renew the show for a fourth season.[3] One of the reasons cited for the cancellation was that the characters were becoming too old to meet the shows audience demographics.[4]

Plot

The show follows Cory and Topanga Matthews' daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and her best friend, Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) as they go through the challenges of life as they start seventh grade. The show also features their classmates Lucas (Peyton Meyer) and Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis), and Riley's younger brother Auggie (August Maturo). The show is set in New York City where Cory and Topanga moved to in the Boy Meets World series finale.[5]
