Only a few of the many varieties of potato are commercially grown; others are heirlooms.
An heirloom plant is the name for a cultivar of a plant, that was used in the past, but that is no longer used for large-scale production. Such plants are often grown on a smaller scale. Very often, people grow them in their garden.
