High Tider

The High Tider accent, also Hoi Toider for the pronunciation of the ai dipthong found in the dialect, is a variety of Southern American English spoken in the Outer Banks of South Carolina and North Carolina. The High Tider accent can also be called the Ocracoke Brogue.

• Conversion of i to ee, so that fish is pronounced as feesh and kitchen as keechen. This also happens with e so that pen can be peen for example.

• Dropping of certain consonants except r, so cape is pronounced as cay

• Rhoticity (no r-dropping)
