Ihab Ilyas

Ihab Francis Ilyas is a computer scientist and a professor of computer science at the University of Waterloo.[1][2]

Biography

Ilyas was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt. He completed bachelor's and master's degrees at Alexandria University in 1995 and 1999. Also, he earned a PhD at Purdue University in 2004. Ilyas held a Cheriton Faculty Fellowship[3] at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science from 2013 to 2016 and he received the Google Faculty Award in 2014.[4]

He is also the leader of the Knowledge Platform team at Apple Inc.[5] He co-founded Tamr Inc. and Inductiv Inc., both of which focus on large-scale data integration and cleaning. Apple acquired Inductiv in 2020.[6] Ilyas is known for his research on database systems and data science, including data quality, data cleaning, managing uncertain data, and rank-aware query processing. He has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field, including being named an ACM Fellow in 2020[7][8] and an IEEE Fellow in 2022.[9]
