Imam Shurunbulali
Ḥasan ibn 'Ammār al-Shurunbulālī (Arabic: أبو الإخلاص حسن بن عمّار الشُرُنْبُلالي) 1586 - 1659 CE, was a Sunni Muslim scholar and jurist. He is known for his significant contribution to the Hanafi madhhab (school of law) and was given the title of Abū al-Ikhlāṣ (أبو الإخلاص), the father of sincerity.[1]

Childhood
Born in a village in Upper Egypt in 994/1586, his father took him to Cairo at the tender age of six. He memorised the Qur’an and subsequently studied the Islamic sciences under numerous scholars, specifically Qur’anic recitation under the likes of Shaykh Muhammad al-Hamawi and Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Masiri, and jurisprudence under Imam ‘Abdullah al-Nahriri, ‘Allama Muhammad al-Mahabbi, and Shaykh ‘Ali ibn Ghanim al-Maqdisi. Life
He furthered his education at Al-Azhar University, which was then the pinnacle of Islamic scholarship. His mastery of jurisprudential texts and legal maxims soon earned him a distinguished reputation. He became a professor at al-Azhar, where many prominent students studied under him, including: Allama Ahmad al-’Ajmi, Sayyid Ahmad al-Hamawi, Shaykh Shahin al-Armanawi and from the Levant; Allama Isma’il al-Nablusi, who was the father of Shaykh Abd al-Ghani al-Nablusi [2]
Works
Nur al-Idah (نور الإيضاح) – Introductory manual on Hanafi jurisprudence (fiqh), covering purification, prayer, fasting, zakat, and hajj in a concise and structured format for beginners.
Maraqi al-Falah (مرقاة الفلاح) – A detailed and widely taught commentary on Nur al-Idah, enriching the base text with explanations, legal reasoning, and spiritual insights; used in intermediate Hanafi studies.
Maraqi 'l-Sa'adat (مراقي السعادات) – A condensed manual on Islamic Creed and Hanafi jurisprudence with appendices that comprise numerous supplications related to the five pillars. [2]
Death
On the 21st of Ramadan 1069 hijri, at the age of 75 years old, the Imam passed away after the 'Asr prayer. [1]
