The Indian Premier League is a Twenty20 cricket tournament in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) began the tournament after a dispute with the Indian Cricket League.[1] The league is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The first season of the Indian Premier League began on 18 April 2008.

There are the eight franchises that field teams to play in the IPL:

  • Chennai Super Kings, CSK
  • Delhi Daredevils, DD
  • Kings XI Punjab, KXIP
  • Kolkata Knight Riders, KKR
  • Mumbai Indians, MI
  • Rajasthan Royals, RR
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore, RCB
  • Sunrisers Hyderbad, SRH

Three other teams have played in the IPL but stopped due to cost:

  • Pune Warriors India, PWI
  • Kochi Tuskers Kerala, KTK)
  • Deccan Chargers, DC
